A Multi-Year Commitment, Not a One-Off Activation
Alex Morgan and CVS Health officially opened Garfield Park Bridge Spot in Washington, D.C. on Friday as the first community multiuse soccer field in a new partnership designed to expand access to safe, quality play spaces for young athletes. The commitment extends through 2028, with additional field investments planned in cities across the country.
The announcement also included a broader institutional layer. CVS Pharmacy has signed on as an Official Health and Wellness Partner of both the U.S. Soccer Federation and the National Women’s Soccer League.
In a recent sit-down with theSkimm, Morgan pointed to her own childhood in Diamond Bar, California, as proof of what access can do. She described spending time at local parks whenever she wanted with her family, calling it a defining factor in her path to two World Cup titles and two Olympic medals.
“Without the space to play, I imagine I would have played less or dreamed less, because I wouldn’t think it was possible,” Morgan told theSkimm.
Morgan Brings Her Own Foundation to the Table
What separates this from a standard brand-athlete deal is that Morgan is investing on her own side as well. Through her foundation, she has already been building mini pitches in San Diego and is now working directly with CVS to identify and develop multisport spaces in California and other markets.
In an interview with Sports Illustrated’s Kicks On SI, Morgan said one of the first locations she has identified is her hometown of Diamond Bar. She described the D.C. unveiling as part of a broader collaborative effort across multiple levels of U.S. soccer, including the Washington Spirit, USL, and U.S. Soccer.
“It really is so important to have that access,” Morgan told Sports Illustrated. “Having this collaboration together to expand access for kids to be able to play sports in local spaces and their communities is really important.”
Why Field Access Remains a Business Problem
For operators, municipalities, and brands looking to connect with families, field availability is not just a community issue. It is a business one. Programs cannot grow registrations without places to practice and compete. The CVS partnership reflects a growing brand strategy: tying corporate investment directly to physical infrastructure that serves young athletes, with a long enough timeline to build real community presence.
Morgan’s dual role as both brand partner and independent foundation builder adds credibility. For youth sports executives evaluating sponsorship models, this structure offers a template where brand dollars, athlete advocacy, and grassroots infrastructure align around a shared and measurable goal.
NWSL Momentum Feeds the Pipeline
Morgan also shared her outlook on the 2026 NWSL season with theSkimm, noting that competition quality continues to rise alongside increased physicality and richer storylines. She highlighted a notable shift: more mothers are now playing in the league than at any previous point, a direct result of improved protections around pregnancy and parenthood.
As the NWSL becomes more visible and more family-friendly in its fan experience, it strengthens the aspirational pipeline that feeds youth participation. Young athletes and their parents increasingly see a viable, supported path from recreation to the pros, and field access is where that path starts.
