Josh Harris and David Blitzer, titans in the realm of youth sports investments, are accelerating their pace yet again.
The dynamic duo, both esteemed sports owners and billionaires, have secured a commanding stake in the ForeverLawn Sports Complex situated within the iconic Hall of Fame Village in Canton, Ohio. With a portfolio boasting ownership of prominent sports franchises such as the Philadelphia 76ers, Washington Commanders, and New Jersey Devils, Harris and Blitzer are poised to leverage their recent approximately $10 million acquisition to further enrich youth sports offerings across the sprawling 115-acre campus, centrally positioned around the esteemed Pro Football Hall of Fame.
This latest venture marks another strategic move in the youth sports domain for the enterprising pair, who recently added the renowned snowboarding camp, We Are Camp, to their repertoire, with the assistance of none other than Shaun White. Moreover, Harris and Blitzer’s acquisition of Ripken Baseball earlier this year, subsequently amalgamated with their existing youth baseball brand, Cooperstown All Star Village, underscores their unwavering commitment to fostering youth sports initiatives. The integration of ForeverLawn Sports Complex, with the parent company Hall of Fame Village Resort and Entertainment Co. retaining a 20% stake, promises to unlock synergies across their burgeoning portfolio.
Notably, Harris and Blitzer executed this acquisition through their family offices, distinct from Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment (HBSE), the umbrella entity for their professional sports ventures such as the Devils and 76ers. While their focus remains on their esteemed sports franchises and allied real estate ventures, the strategic purchase of the HOF Village complex underscores the Wall Street moguls’ bullish outlook on the youth sports landscape. Additionally, this move enables the newly minted owners of the Commanders to fortify their ties within the NFL ecosystem.
In collaboration with HOF Resort and Entertainment (NASDAQ: HOFV), Harris and Blitzer’s partnership extends to the Village’s Center for Performance, a state-of-the-art domed sports facility catering to diverse athletic activities year-round, including tournaments, sporting events, and concerts.
For HOFV, which made its public debut through a merger with Gordon Pointe Acquisition in 2020 and grappled with the aftermath of pandemic-induced losses, this alliance holds promise for revitalization. Meanwhile, for Harris and Blitzer, it signifies an expansion of their footprint in the youth sports sector, with investments spanning across the nation.
