- ESPN will broadcast all 22 games of the 2026 Little League Softball World Series on linear platforms, a first in event history
- The 2025 Championship Game averaged 1.44 million viewers, up 139% from the prior year and the most-watched Little League Softball game ever
- Little League Softball team participation has increased approximately 25% since the Girls with Game Initiative launched in 2019
- ESPN will air more than 150 Little League Softball games across all levels this summer, up from just 12 in 2017
- The 2026 LLSWS runs August 2-9 in Greenville with 12 participating teams
Full Linear Coverage Begins in 2026
For the first time in its history, the Little League Softball World Series will have all 22 games broadcast on ESPN’s linear television platforms. The 2026 event, presented by DICK’S Sporting Goods, marks a significant expansion in visibility for the tournament.
The Championship Game has aired on ABC since 2023, but earlier rounds were previously available only through streaming. This year, every game from pool play through the finals will be accessible on traditional ESPN networks.
“The expansion of our Little League Softball World Series schedule underscores ESPN’s ongoing commitment to women’s and girls’ sports and reflects our dedication to growing the game,” said Ashley O’Connor, ESPN Vice President of Programming and Acquisitions.
Record Viewership Fuels Expansion
The broadcast expansion follows record-setting audience numbers. The 2025 Championship Game averaged 1.44 million viewers, representing a 139% increase over the previous year. It was the most-watched Little League Softball game in the event’s history.
Since moving to Greenville in 2021 and expanding to 12 participating teams in 2022, the LLSWS has steadily grown its audience and broadcast footprint. The tournament has also seen increased international participation, with Japan chartering teams for the first time during the 2025 season, Quebec earning its first bid in 2024, and Brazil qualifying in 2025.
Broader Investment in Softball Coverage
The linear TV expansion is part of a larger push by Little League International and ESPN to increase visibility for female athletes. In 2017, ESPN broadcast just 12 Little League Softball games. This summer, that number will exceed 150 games across all levels of play, including comprehensive coverage of Region Tournaments and the Junior League and Senior League Softball World Series.
“Building on the success of our early-round games and record setting audiences year after year, the evolution of our softball program will continue to shine on youth sports’ brightest stage with millions of fans now being able to watch our games each summer,” said Patrick Wilson, Little League President and CEO.
Participation Growth Reflects Momentum
On the participation side, Little League Softball has seen approximately 25% growth in team registrations since the Girls with Game Initiative launched in 2019. The initiative focuses on expanding opportunities for female players and increasing representation across Little League programming.
The 2026 Little League Softball World Series is scheduled for August 2-9 in Greenville. Full schedules for all seven Little League World Series events will be released in March.
