The West Michigan Sports Commission (WMSC) has made significant strides in its campaign to improve and expand the Meijer Sports Complex, thanks to substantial donations and grants. The project, aimed at enhancing sports facilities in Grand Rapids, Michigan, has now reached 77% of its $11.4 million goal.

Alro Steel Championship Field: The Alro Steel Foundation’s generous donation secures naming rights for the complex’s new championship softball field. Randy Glick, CEO of Alro Steel, emphasized the importance of youth sports in honoring his father Al Glick’s legacy.
Congresswoman Scholten’s Support: Highlighting the community-building aspect of sports, Congresswoman Hillary Scholten secured $750,000 in federal funds for the expansion project. She emphasized the project’s potential to promote youth health, boost the local economy, and attract athletic events to West Michigan.
Ongoing Improvements and Expansion Plans:
- Synthetic turf installation on the DeVos Family Championship Field
- Resurfacing of the Nate Hurwitz Miracle Field
- Construction of the Alro Steel Championship Field
- Addition of three flexible-use diamond fields
- Installation of 20 pickleball courts
- New concession and restroom facilities
- Expanded parking and playground areas
Economic Impact: The expanded complex is projected to accommodate 200 more teams annually and generate an additional $1 million in visitor spending.
