Major League Baseball (MLB) is taking its Play Ball Weekend, a youth participation initiative, to the next level by introducing a virtual component through the Diamond Kinetics iOS mobile app. This exciting collaboration aims to engage young players and enhance their baseball experience.
Virtual Baseball Experience 🤖⚾
- From June 14-16, kids can use the Diamond Kinetics app and their phone’s camera to take swings and see how their bat path compares to MLB stars like Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, and Juan Soto.
- The app’s SmartMotion technology provides this innovative virtual experience, offering gamified drills, contests, interactive hitting lessons, and more.
Year-Round Fun and Learning 🗓️
- While the virtual Play Ball activities will be a highlight during Play Ball Weekend, they will remain available in the app year-round, providing a continuous source of engagement and skill development.
- No additional hardware is required, making this virtual experience accessible to young players everywhere.
MLB’s Youth Development Partnership 🤝
- In 2022, MLB took an equity stake in Diamond Kinetics, a Pittsburgh-based company, naming it the league’s trusted youth development platform.
- This partnership underscores MLB’s commitment to fostering youth participation and skill development in baseball.
