In an exciting development for San Antonio’s sports and recreational scene, Spurs Give is set to unveil a brand-new outdoor basketball half-court at The Rock at La Cantera on Saturday. This addition to the state-of-the-art facility is part of the Play SA program, aimed at promoting active lifestyles and fostering a sense of community through sports.
The half-court boasts a stunning Spurs court design and a Coca-Cola themed backboard, inviting basketball enthusiasts of all ages to engage in pickup games, shooting practice, or free play. The court will be open to the public daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., providing a dedicated space for basketball lovers to hone their skills and enjoy the sport they love.
To commemorate the unveiling, Spurs Sports Academy will lead a youth basketball clinic, offering skill stations and challenges designed specifically for children aged 7 to 14. This exciting event highlights the organization’s commitment to nurturing young talent and fostering a love for basketball in the community.
“The Rock at La Cantera is more than just a practice facility for our team; it’s a space for all of our San Antonio community to gather and connect,” said Dr. Kara Allen, Chief People, Impact and Belonging Officer at Spurs Sports and Entertainment. “Aligned with our commitment to providing safe places to play through Play SA, this new court will enhance that community connection and provide space to get outside and get active – a place where all belong.”
In addition to the half-court, The Rock at La Cantera offers a variety of free events and amenities for visitors to enjoy, including the basketball hoop tree, Frost Plaza events, a dog park, and more. Spurs Give plans to utilize the space throughout the year, hosting various health and wellness events, as well as basketball clinics, further solidifying the organization’s dedication to promoting an active and engaged community.
The Rock at La Cantera, a $500 million legacy project for the entire Spurs Sports & Entertainment organization, encompasses the Victory Capital Performance Center and continues to serve as a premier destination for sports, recreation, and community engagement in San Antonio.
