The platform used by more than a million youth sports teams takes home the inaugural award for technological innovation.
GameChanger has been named the Best Youth Sports Tech winner in the inaugural Youth Sports Awards, presented by GoFundMe and the Youth Sports Business Report.
The recognition comes 15 years after GameChanger launched as a digital scorekeeping app for baseball and softball. Today, as part of the DICK’S Sporting Goods family, the platform serves millions of families across all major youth sports, combining scorekeeping, live streaming, team management, and statistics into a single integrated experience.
Building the Operating System for Youth Sports
GameChanger’s reach extends across the full spectrum of youth sports, from recreational leagues to elite competition. The platform addresses a fundamental tension in modern youth sports: rising expectations around organization and performance happening alongside increasingly busy families and coaches trying to balance packed schedules.
“We feel a real responsibility to help our users show up at their best in these moments,” said Sameer Ahuja, President of GameChanger. The company designs for what it calls “the entire ecosystem,” but keeps families at the center. Coaches use the platform to manage lineups, communicate with teams, and analyze performance. Athletes access video and insights for skill development. Families stay connected to games whether they’re in the stands or across the country.
Connection as Impact
GameChanger’s focus has expanded beyond functionality to address something harder to quantify: helping families stay connected to moments that matter when they can’t be physically present.
“When parents, grandparents, and loved ones can follow along live, react in real time, and stay part of the experience, it reinforces to kids that what they’re doing matters,” Ahuja explained. “That sense of connection and support has a real impact. Kids feel seen. They feel encouraged.”
The platform processes millions of games annually, turning youth sports into shared family experiences rather than isolated events happening on fields somewhere. For military families in particular, GameChanger has become critical infrastructure. Service members deployed overseas can watch their children compete in real time, maintaining connections that would otherwise be impossible.
Infrastructure Challenges
Behind GameChanger’s simple user experience sits complex technical architecture. Youth sports happen across millions of fields with inconsistent connectivity, varying levels of play, and different technological capabilities. Building a product that works reliably across all those environments requires significant behind-the-scenes engineering.
“A lot of what we do is about reducing friction in really complex environments,” Ahuja said. “Building a product that works reliably in all of those settings, and feels simple to the user, takes a lot of behind-the-scenes work.”
What’s Next
GameChanger recently announced what the company describes as the most comprehensive product update in its history. The focus areas are clear: coach smarter, connect live, and replay the action. Future development will build on this foundation with more intuitive tools, deeper performance insights, and more seamless connection points for families.
For Ahuja and the GameChanger team, the Youth Sports Award validates years of work while clarifying the path forward. “It reinforces that we’re solving real problems for coaches, families, operators, and young athletes,” he said. “We want to continue to raise the bar for what youth sports can look like and how it can feel for the people who care about it most.”
